William Leather with wife at Black Swan,

27/04/21

Last week we had an email containing this photo taken at the rear of the Black Swan in 1909. We very kindly received the email from the great grandson of William Leather (centre- seated) (1862-1917) - landlord of the Black Swan - who took over the licence from William Parker on 3rd May 1909 until his death in 1917. William's wife, Louisa, who helped her husband run the pub, is the woman standing at William's left shoulder and their only child, Herbert, is standing directly behind William. Herbert's first daughter, Dorothy Leather, was born "over the shop" in September 1916. Others in the photo are all close relatives of William & Louisa.

Thanks to Steven Leather for sending this photo and sharing some of the history of the Black Swan
